Gaeilge á la carte - putting Irish on the menu! Gaillimh le Gaeilge, the organisation responsible for the promotion of the Irish language in Galway city, have announced their latest project, Gaeilge À La Carte. This initiative which was launched recently by Mayor of Galway, Cllr. Michael Crowe, promotes hotels, pubs and restaurants who have introduced the Irish language on their menus.
So far, twelve restaurants have come on board and they were all present at the press event showcasing their bilingual menus. The restaurants taking part are; Bácús Uí Ghríofa/Griffins Bakery, Dáil Bar, Galway Bay Hotel, GBC, Glenlo Abbey, Kashmir, Kings Head, Lohans Bar & Restaurant, Monroe’s Tavern, Malt House, Quays Bar and Vina Mara, with others coming on board in the next few weeks. The restaurants with bilingual menus are now listed and promoted on Gaillimh le Gaeilge’s website, www.gleg.ie, as restaurants with Bilingual menus. Gaillimh le Gaeilge will also host one of their Lónta Gnó [monthly business lunch] in the restaurants listed. These Lónta Gnó are very successful with up to 40 people attending each lunch.
The staff of Gaillimh le Gaeilge are available to advise restaurants on possible layouts and on the amount of Irish suitable for their menus. They will also provide a free translation service. Please contact Gearóidín on 091 568876 or email gearoidin@gleg.ie
